The ACRM Annual Conference: Progress in Rehabilitation Research is the premier educational conference for evidence-based learning in rehabilitation medicine. The 2022 ACRM Program Committee invites proposals focused on research evidence and its translation into clinical practice.

ACRM Invites You to Submit Proposals for
the Following NEW Topics for 2022

The Big Data track highlights rehabilitation and disability outcomes research using large administrative, clinical, and research datasets. All related proposals are encouraged, including submissions on data sharing and archiving information from rehabilitation research studies. The goal is to contribute to health care practice and policy through the use of large data from the expansive amount of information (patient medical records, medical exam results, and information collected by healthcare testing machines, etc.) now available to clinicians, administrators and researchers for advanced analytics, and predictive analytics and machine learning.
CAREGIVER NEEDS - Proposals covering any of the many facets of caregiver training and/or caregiver treatment in the area of patient rehabilitation needs are encouraged. These areas of informal caregiving in rehabilitation can include, but are not limited to, the following: Elevated rates of health and financial problems, as well as significant emotional distress and caregiver strain and/or burden; Adverse impacts of caregiving and possible mitigation measures, including unmet needs of caregivers; Caregiver resilience scores related to lower depressive symptom severity, greater health responsibility, physical activity, nutrition, spiritual growth, interpersonal relations, stress management, and more; Problems faced by caregivers of people in inpatient rehabilitation, such as: emotional function, activities, and participation (problems with school and work), self-care, interpersonal interactions and relationships; Quality and amount of education provided to care-partners, including problem-solving training, earlier intervention, and improving care partner outcomes on the continuum of care (including the transition of care from hospital to home; Frameworks for caregiving practices; and Measures of the positive effects of caregiving.
DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION - The ACRM Program Committee encourages all proposals submitted for this track to include matters that facilitate multi-stakeholder collaboration related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. CLICK IMAGE FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THIS NEW TOPIC.
LEADERSHIP - This track has grown out of the popularity of the ACRM Leadership Development Course launched two years ago. Proposals for this track are encouraged to provide an interdisciplinary rehabilitation medicine perspective on the following topics: Management styles; Team building and prioritizing resilience; Inspiring and valuing individuals or teams and finding ways to capitalize on their strengths;Fostering inclusive environments; Mentorship; Career advancement opportunities; Resolving conflict; Time management and managing expectations; and Work-life balance, creating culture of wellness in an organization--both internally and externally.
TRAUMA - The ACRM Program Committee created this track to feature content related to rehabilitation medicine's role in the care and treatment of conditions resulting from all aspects of trauma.
BURN REHABILITATION - Proposals for the Burn Rehabilitation track can be on any aspect; physical, psychological and social related to all phases of rehabilitation from a traumatic burn injury. As with other ACRM conference tracks, presenters are encouraged to design their proposals to cover the interdisciplinary nature of burn rehabilitation treatments including but not limited to the treatment provided by: physical/occupational and speech-language pathology therapists; psychiatrists; burn/reconstructive surgeons; psychologists; and the patient and their family/caregivers.
This track will highlight the research being done on COVID-19 and its impact on the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation. The track will cover all aspects of the pandemic from its effect on the continuing care for those with disabling conditions to the rehabilitation research being conducted on people who contract COVID-19 as well as the condition known as Long COVID (known formally as Post-Acute Sequelae SARS-CoV-2 infection or PASC)
EARLY MOBILIZATION & REHABILITATION IN THE ICU - The ACRM Program Committee developed this track to invite proposals on the topic of early mobilization of critically ill patients, which has been associated with improved functional outcomes. Proposals in this track may refer to research and/or information regarding physical activity in the ICU that results in physiological changes and/or counter post-intensive care worsening of physical, mental, and cognitive problems.
SKIN MANAGEMENT - The ACRM Program Committee developed this track to invite proposals that focus on the prevention or treatment of pressure injuries, wounds, and other skin diseases.
WRITING GRANTS & GETTING FUNDED -Proposals for the Writing Grants and Getting Funded track can be on any aspect related to funding of rehabilitation research, including established funding programs, new funding opportunities, collaborative efforts, and unique initiatives. Proposals may also be about the nuances of writing grants that might help anyone across their careers, from young investigators to mid-career professionals to experienced researchers.
CARDIOPULMONARY REHABILITATION - Proposals covering any of the many facets of cardiac rehabilitation and/or pulmonary rehabilitation, and especially highlighting the interdisciplinary rehabilitation teams, are encouraged. These areas of rehabilitation can be described as follows: Cardiac rehabilitation includes all aspects of exercise and education designed to help those who have suffered heart attacks, live with other types of heart disease or have undergone cardiac surgery to recover and regain functionality and improve quality of life; and Pulmonary rehabilitation includes all aspects of rehabilitation programs designed to treat those with chronic breathing problems and to improve their lung function, reduce symptom severity and improve quality of life.
CULTURAL COMPETENCY - This secondary track is open to proposals on topics related to cultural competency in rehabilitation medicine. As with other ACRM conference tracks, presenters are encouraged to design their proposals to cover the interdisciplinary nature of this topic, such as but not limited to: establishing and fostering inclusive and culturally aware or culturally humble frameworks and practices when conducting research, clinical practice, or professional development. Examples include: mentoring and fostering the participation of underrepresented professionals at all stages of their careers, culturally competent practice that is clinically based, activities addressing health inequities, discrimination, racism, microaggressions, and more.
ETHICS - This secondary track is open to proposals on topics related to ethical considerations in rehabilitation medicine, such as but not limited to: ethical dilemmas in practice and in research, evaluation and resolution of ethical concerns, ethical decision making, ethics as they relate to legal considerations, unethical behaviors, and more.
The Telehealth track was established to offer a variety of sessions on telehealth as a sustainable delivery service for health care professionals in the field of medical rehabilitation. Proposals showing research and evidence-based information are encouraged to promote education, research, practice and networking across interdisciplinary rehabilitation professionals, including academicians, clinicians, researchers, rehabilitation and consumer technology industry members, and end users.
